They seem common as dirt, unfortunately :(  Adrian Graham seems something of 
an expert on them, and I know one of the local council officials back when I 
was living in Cambridge had something to do with the firmware development (in 
a previous life!)

Indeed it was a OPD rebranding - I'd forgotten that the OPD came first, rather 
than it being the other way round.

Yep, hence the Q. about the Merlin bit. I know I had a pair of 9600 baud 
'industrial' BT modems once upon a time that were branded Merlin, too.
