If you pop the case of the Casio have a look at the speakers (or get the
technical spec), you can probably get the same dimension of speaker with
shielded magnets. Magnetic interference such as this causes problems with
other equipment too, notably tape decks (open reel & cassette types) by
magnetizing the heads and slowly erasing tapes. You could, of course, find
some "soft iron" which, by its nature, is not magnetically permeable and
wrap the speaker magnets with it or put a sheet between the keyboard and the
monitor.
On the topic of odd places for Beeb stuff, how about a missile test harness?
At BAE there was one in the bottom of a rumble/shake machine that tested
missile guidance systems before being finally assembled to a missile. The
Beeb had quite a tough time, but apparently had been in there for years
without any bother. None of the ICs were in sockets though.
