Subject: master keyboard

I was given a few Masters for free by someone off this list, which all
had keys broken off. I used the worst keyboard for parts, and
experimented with some of the dead ones to see if I could repair them.
I think I broke them, they were very fiddly. I broke some other
switches by holding the soldering iron on the for too long.

I've found with the Elk, Beeb and Master that hammering at the keys
for a while can make them spring back to life again.

As an interesting aside, I have a Beeb keyboard in bits, because it
has square switch posts that you can actually look into and see the
contacts. It doesn't work properly, so I took all the keytops off with
a view to cleaning the contacts with a very fine sandpaper. Needless
to say I haven't finished the job, but I thought it was interesting
because it's the only Beeb keyboard I can remember seeing, that's made
out of this kind of keyswitch.
