Great! Previously I tried to build a board using Martin's original 
schematics but I must somehow have failed. It didn't even draw
5V from the userport. Perhaps it was my cable that was bad. Your variant 
looks even simpler to build so maybe I'll have a new try.

As you mention on your project page though, it is the software that makes it 
all possible. With the risk of getting off-topic, I have a couple of other 
computers that probably could be wired up with a homemade MMC interface, but 
without any software to read the card it is a moot point.
