I've had that too, with a Ferranti turbo-XT clone with green-screen
that I sold someone in the 90s.

I keep doing this all the time on one of my Cubs. Probably caused by
using the technique of leaning over the back, holding the cable up to
the socket and rotating it until it pushes in. Usually the notch would
only allow it in the one way, but the worn-out socket allows the plug
to go in 180 degrees out. I thought the monitor or cable was broken at
one point. It's slightly embarassing because I'm an IT technician by
profession...
