Subject: Fwd: BBC B to PC serial cable
If you want to get rid of the domino-plug, just solder a 'normal' DB9
via a small flatcable to the underside of the PCB, parallel to the
domino-plug. Cutout a small hole in the back of the BBC-case and screw
the DB9 in, next to the domino.
Tip: a lot of old PC's have their serial ports connected to the
backside of the case via a small flatcable (see for example
http://www.crystalfontz.com/backlight/db9F_2x5_ribbon_straight.jpg).
Cutoff the header and use that flatcable.
Then solder the well-known PC-BBC cable (see
http://www.sprow.co.uk/bbc/extraserial.htm) and there you go. Just
don't use the domino and the DB9 simultaniously, of course.
DB9 instead of DB25 should suffice, at least for in-home setups. At
9600 baud, the 'official' cable-length is 150m;) At 19k2 you should
not exceed 15m. If you have a proper shielded cable, of course.
Greetings,
