I remember this problem, it happens with executables on processors
over about 200MHz. I seem to remember a patch for the runtime library
that causes the problem, but don't remember any of the details (it was
quite a few years ago now). You might also have success with a
slowdown utility such as SloMo or equivalent.

I have some sub-200MHz PCs lying around if you want one :-)
