Indeed. Of course, if you regularly run a particular DOS program that
you need to see the results of after it ends, you can indeed run it
directly (or create its own shortcut with suitable parameters) but
un-tick the "close on exit" option (on Properties>Program tab). That
forces you to click the X to close the window afterwards so allowing
you to see it's results.
Where you are still working on getting something working, running from
a command window makes more sense I feel, and the instructions I gave
at least try and make that window work in compatibility mode.
