Ok, I'll try to format a 360K disk with WinImage and see if it makes any
difference. I remember as much as Windows XP recognizes the 360K drive, but
won't access it in any way. It is possible that WinImage at least will allow
me to take raw dumps of a floppy disk, whatever good it does. I will also
try the most recent version of OmniFlop in case it works better on my
current low-end PC.

While using the really old OmniDisk for DOS, I managed to read at least a
few tracks off a BBC floppy, although a number of sync errors occurred. I
believe I got as far as format a blank disk on the PC and *CAT on the BBC.
Dave Dunfield's test utility suggested the FDC should be a mostly good one
on all four (?) motherboards I've tried.

Of course now we have both IDE and SD interfaces on top of various serial
and networking interfaces, which reduces the need to transfer software by
floppy a little.

Best regards
