in order, trying the drives again in between each:

1. Check you haven't bent any pins on the drive connector under the
Beeb.  This is the most likely cause.

2. Reseat the Solidisk interface board (carefully unplug and refit it)

3. Change ic79, 7438 (do not use a 74LS38)

4. Pass :)
