Subject: Morley Teletext Adapter

I think the trouble with the Acorn teletext adapter is that the tuning dials
mean that you've got no idea what frequency you are on, so you just have
to keep twiddling till you get something. With the Morley one, the tuning
is done by software so you get a display of the channel and frequency.

The actual working of the Morley unit appears to differ somewhat from
the manual. It talks about automatic tuning and a file of the channels
being saved to the selected filing system, which can then be loaded back
as it forgets the settings after powering down the Beeb.

None of this happened on my setup, but I think the Morley manual is
referring to their support ROM which I think is a separate thing which I haven't
been able to find online as yet.

Best wishes,

Ian

Is the original Acorn one like this too? Mine had some shorted
tantalum capacitors on it, I removed them and it powers up and is
detected by a BBC Master with the software loaded into sideways RAM.
But I never got the tuning indicator to show any signal at all - maybe
because I didn't have any aerial and I was using a long piece of wire
stuffed into the centre pin and trailed over to the window. I thought
it ought to have had some kind of signal showing, but now I've read
this I'm wondering if it might actually work if I used a proper roof
aerial.

I'm not sure where though; my home one never worked properly and then
I went through the cable with the hedge trimmer. I never repaired it
because I've not watched anything via the aerial for ages now.
