Sorry, there's no fix.
The use of "black background" is a level 2 (or is it 1.5?) feature.
Pretty much all teletext hardware supports this, except for the SAA5050
which predates it...

If you want more fun, if you have access to signals from Astra 19.2E try
some teletext pages in German, French, Italian... see what the Beeb
makes of those! :-)
