The MDFS manual does say you can put a drive from an HDFS into the
MDFS, but only to reinitialise it and then start storing MDFS data
on it. The FDFS uses a different filesystem structure to the MDFS.
I think for a start the HDFS uses 32-byte entries for each object.
The MDFS uses 64-byte entries, see
