>From my point of view, I'd rather have DINs facing me for two reasons
- authenticity, and lack of confusion of role. I really hate mixing
uses of the same sort of connector, as sooner or later the wrong
things get plugged together, and as often as not, the most awkward
thing to replace dies because of it.
(I started at one company, mid 90s, that did cabling for serial
terminals on the cheap, using standard BT type telephone sockets,
albeit mounted upside down. I had to replace more than one PC
motherboard after users connected the cables into real telephone
points... I gently moved them onto Cat5 just as quickly as I could,
which worked nicely as boss man could then sell them ethernet much
easier, too..)
Plus, the Cat5 flyleads I always seem to encounter have crappy cable
in them that hates being soldered.. I'd rather now go out and find
some cheap ready-made DIN-DIN cables than mess with those again..
Probably as cheap as trying to find loose DINs in the day and age..
