Subject: Econet over UTP ?
I think I must have been lucky with 5-pin DIN cables, I bought a batch
from Maplins' on Oxford Rd, Manchester about 7 years ago when I was
first getting going with Econet and they worked fine, and more recently
I got hold of some Belkin ones which also work.
I have had incorrectly wired cables in the past very occasionally, I
remember one or two where they weren't wired pin-for-pin and they
caused all kinds of havoc on the network till my FLAT Box discovered
them. They were moulded plugs but I can't remember how I came by
them.
Best wishes,
Ian

Thanks for that heads up. I had heard that from somewhere else, but I must
just have been lucky, as I've baught MIDI cables from several sources and
they've all been fully wired so have worked okay.
I suppose we need to ask that seller if his connector is fully wired for it
to be of use...

Be very careful with MIDI cables. MIDI only uses pins 2,4 and 5 (the
middle 3), so some MIDI cables won't have pins 1 and 3 connected, and will
be useless as Econet cables.
I learnt the hard way by buying a few new short MIDI cables from CPC,
thinking
they would be good for Econet leads, but found they were useless.
Regards
Michael
P.S. Does anyone need some MIDI cables? :-)
