Indeed my thoughts went that way. But it didn't make sense to me.
When the nets are clocked differently, there's quite a clash then!

It looks very original to me!

Only one socket has a wire connection between pin 2 of the
5-pin DIN plug to the PCB.
At the other socket, pin 2 is completely free.
