Well I post one about once a year, just on the off chance, usually to
my local freecycle group, but this time I also posted to the
surrounding groups and also a local realcycle list.  I don't usually
get any replies, but this is one to make it worthwhile.

The reply would have to be about as far away from me as it is possible
to be, mind, given I posted to quite a wide area!!  A good 20 miles
each way. (ok it's not FAR - I once drove to Leicester for some kit I
won on eBay - but it's further than most *cycle ads take me...)  At
least it'll be worthwhile - the initial contact I had from her was "I
was about to post up some cumana disc drives" ... I was wondering how
to turn her down gently, but I'm glad I followed it up, now..

So.. I definitely recommend the occasional wanted ad..!
