Hmm, the Manchester to Huddersfield leg of the journey is threatening
to scupper the whole enterprise: there aren't any direct trains from
Manchester to Huddersfield on Sunday 13th September 2009 due to
engineering works (although there are direct trains from Huddersfield
to Manchester, so I can get home, and in fact I could even arrive in
Manchester by direct train from Huddersfield at a time when there
aren't any trains leaving Manchester, so presumably they are only
working on odd-numbered platforms or something).

The best bet might be the 9am train mentioned earlier, although
Virgin don't seem to want people to know about it: if I ask their
website for departures from London to Huddersfield on that day
after 7am it comes up with the 12.35 departure mentioned earlier,
looking for earlier trains then gives the 9pm departure the previous
night (before the Proms finale has happened) and then asking for later
trains finally turns up the 9am one.

I could go by National Express from Manchester to Huddersfield
but unfortunately I would have to leave at 9.15, which is 90
minutes before the earliest time I could arrive, go to Sheffield,
wait there for 2 hours 20 mins and then go to Huddersfield, arriving
at 4.45pm. To get home again the same day I would have to leave at 7 am,
over two hours before the coach getting me there sets off from its
departure point.

My brain hurts....

Try not to use the same website I did! It seems to be unreliable in
train times involving Yorkshire!

Best wishes,

Ian

Yes, I'm planning on being there. Just need to check out train
times, etc.

Youth has now fled. Their best years have been passed in the service
of the party. They are ageing and their ideals have also passed,
dispersed by the contrarities of daily struggles.
