You'll notice sometimes a film will go right to sponsorship advert
without the once-usual static bookend frame. It's really horrible as you
are involved in the film and suddenly you are looking at an advert and
having to untangle it from your mind. At least the static screen gave
you notice - "film ending for some publicity waffle" and "okay back to
the film".

It was also your cue to hit pause on the VCR. :-)

Best wishes,

Rick.
