Subject: Econet <> Ethernet
A brief update for all those interested.
At approximately 19:30 BST - a fine summer evening as it turned out, Phil
Blundell had an Alexander Graham Bell moment when he passed a packet from an
Acorn 5000 on Ethernet to an MDFS on Econet via the "bridge" unit he had
designed, and receiving a reply from the MDFS was able to log on
successfully.
About an hour later this was repeated by Mark Usher who has been working
with Phil on the unit's firmware, logging on to a Filesnore E01S from a RISC
PC on Ethernet proving that it was indeed no fluke. Attempts from BeebEm
running on a laptop unfortunately have not yet been successful.
Another historic milestone this year, first Rob with BeebEm adding more
Econet and AUN functionality, Sprow and his wonderously ingenious Ethernet
upgrade and now the long talked about Econet <> Ethernet bridge (name still
being decided).
Some say that even The Stig would nod knowingly in acknowledgement.
