My PVR creates odd MPEG4 files (.MP4 extn) which VirtualDub doesn't
like, and I find AVIDemux not entirely intuitive.

I would like to join together files (it splits on hour boundaries) and
cut out adverts. No other manipulation, though an option to flag the
file as 16:9 would be nice.

What would you recommend? URL too please!

LATER: AVIDemux seems to do most of what I want, though *COPYING* the
audio and video (after edits) to an MP4 container (as was the original)
results in a few small 'problems', namely:
   * Audio missync, only a few cs, but enough to notice. Not after an
     edit, might be frame-rate related? Can't I just say "as it was"?
   * Skipping to anywhere in the video is a horrible mess until the
     next keyframe. This does not happen with the original MP4 input,
     so it must be something AVIDemux is doing?

Ideally I would like to touch the actual contents of the video file as
little as possible, only to delete parts and join two files together;
sort of like how editing this paragraph into the original message
required me to load and have access to the entire message, though I only
changed this part instead of rewriting the entire thing...

The file format as listed by MPlayer is:

      VIDEO:  [mp4v]  720x480  24bpp  30.000 fps    0.0 kbps ( 0.0 kbyte/s)

=========================================================================
      Opening video decoder: [ffmpeg] FFmpeg's libavcodec codec family
      Selected video codec: [ffodivx] vfm: ffmpeg (FFmpeg MPEG-4)

=========================================================================

=========================================================================
      Opening audio decoder: [faad] AAC (MPEG2/4 Advanced Audio Coding)
      AUDIO: 44100 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 128.0 kbit/9.07% (ratio: 16000->176400)
      Selected audio codec: [faad] afm: faad (FAAD AAC (MPEG-2/MPEG-4
Audio) decoder)

Thanks.

Quaintly odd Korean film, but then a fair few are!

Saw it on FilmFour a while back. It's a shame they have been showing BR2
which is WAY inferior.

:-)

Sadly "AnimeCentral" on satellite only lasted a short time. I am forever
thankful for "Planetes" and "Witch Hunter Robin", but I'd really like to
see a few more things - Evangelion and something-Lied.
 From my experiences with "GITS" and "hack//SIGN", I think trying to
follow it in French is not going to prove too fruitful. I have watched
some stuff in French, or in Jap/FrSubs, but I do wonder how much I'm
missing as opposed to understanding!
Any recommendations?

Ditto. I quite liked that one with him as a PI and the bratty daughter
of a person that got killed. The Last Boy Scout? It's a film with little
actual merit but I spent most of the time laughing at it, and for making
an otherwise rainy evening cheerful, I liked it. A lot of the latter
Swartzeneggar/Stallone stuff falls into this category - "Last Action
Hero", "Demolition Man"... there's just no way to take them seriously...

The movie was quite good (even with Kurt in yet another
block-head-military-man role). The series? 'Okay', moreso with Amanda
Tapping around. :-)

The BBC are paranoid. You try accessing any video AT ALL online with a
non-UK IP address. Tried on WiFi to get some behind the scenes of
Torchwood and it replied that this was not available in my location.
Okay, technically as a non-licence-fee-payer I am an invisible
"overspill" person, but do they have to be that uppity? What about when
it airs in Canada (etc), is it out of the realms of possibility for fans
to try something as obvious as bbc.co.uk/torchwood ?

The worst one of all, though, was the bloke from World Movies telling me
that he can't give schedule information to non-UK residents. Well, um,
how about listing your stuff someplace? A website? There are some
interesting movies on WM but I have as yet found no method better than
hit&miss on the Now/Next of the programme information...

We niche viewers are used to it. You'd have hoped "Zone Horror" could
have used a higher bitrate to combat the blockies, but I guess it costs
too much. After all, half a dozen or more minority channels can be stuck
onto one transponder. Same with Pop/TinyPop/PopGirl and the +1s - I know
this because AnimeCentral originally timeshared with PopGirl...

Ah, but who would the one decent channel appeal to? Or maybe "to who
would the decent one appeal"? Anyway - I suspect it will go to who has
the most cash to offer - I'd rather a low bitrate channel of horror
flicks than some over-the-top Suralunised shopping channel.

To try to keep this lamely on topic, what possibilities exist for
digitising TV frames on a Beeb? I dimly recall Unilab making something,
and also a Watford digitiser. Does anybody have experience with either unit?

Best wishes,

Rick.
