I just checked the manual for my router (a Speedtouch 536) and you're
right: it can forward UDP or TCP, but it doesn't seem to have any
provision for forwarding other IP protocols.

In that case I guess the easiest thing to do is just to invent an
RFC2003 equivalent based on UDP: i.e. take the original IP datagram, put
it in the UDP payload, and send it to a known port on the destination
host.

I'll try to code that up later today if I can find some time. If we can
get this working in the next couple of weeks then we might be able to
set up a full intereconet in time for the Acorn World thing, which would
be fun.

It'd be interesting to see how many different types of machine we could
get connected to it at the same time. Obviously Beebs, Masters,
Archimedeses, Filestores and MDFSs are fairly common. My FDFS is in
Cardiff but I might be able to get it online. Does anybody have an HDFS
in working order? Ecolink? 380Z?
