I think a better solution may be to switch to a layout like this:

i.e. instead of 4 x 4ft tables with "gap" in the middle; use 3 x 4ft and 1 x
6ft (which would provide us with a central surface area for piling up
fileservers etc).

Also, if we need to set Beebs/Arcs up *underneath* the tables, I suppose that
would be ok after all! :-)
