You also need the work inspected, since 2005, though at the time the
news made the new regulations sound like a ban:

No outright horror stories to share here.  The house still has a four way
fuse box; just about everything is on the 30A fuse and it's only blown
twice in twenty years.  We'd have a modern CU but the meter is on such a
massive board there's not much wall space left in the cupboard-under-
the-stairs.
