Rather like ISO 9001 (ex BS5750) implicitly requiring all your suppliers
to be ISO 9001... and it means WHAT exactly? Quality? Don't make me
laugh - it does not (and is not) for providing any assurance that
customer satisfaction will be provided. It contributes little, if
anything, to PRODUCT QUALITY. Its all about documenting internal company
processes, and validating that such procedures are being followed. One
might argue that product quality could stand to be worse off as
employees will be involved in the paper-chase, external audits mean
additional expense, and in addition to that, it is my experience that
management freak out whenever somebody comes to watch or audit anything,
like if the performance is less than 101% it'll be their neck on the
line ... it may will be, but it's the staff that this ends up being
taken out on.

In simpler words, when there is a delivery of mops, said mops will be
logged in and placed in the place where mops go, according to the
internal documentation. The audit will ensure this happens, as opposed
to alternatives like the mops being tipped out of their transport
packaging into any convenient cupboard.

It don't mean the janitor [*] is capable of mopping up worth a damn. :-)

Best wishes,

Rick.
