Half the people I know would use paperclips, ciggie-pack foil, alu foil 
and anything else to replace a blown fuse. I once saw a rolled up milk 
bottle cap.

My favourite, however, was the main house fuse (what is that, 60A?) was 
a big sturdy nappy pin!
