A useful trick especially if you have several sets of keytops to do is
put them in a pillowcase after washing, tie it up securely, and sling it
in the tumble drier (on a cool cycle). I have been know to put said
pillowcase in the washing machine too, but to be honest the bucket of
hot water (I add "Flash") is usually quicker unless you have a lot to
do. I usually add a very little Mr Sheen after washing as it helps keep
the shine and seems to stop them getting icky and sticky so quickly.
