I stick all my Beeb/RPC/PC keytops in the washing machine on a normal
40 degree cycle with the rest of the wash. Been doing it for years now
when the keytops start to look mucky. Never had any problems. As has
been said - just put them in a knotted pillowcase and use your usual
detergent (Fairy non-bio in my case).

I just compare them to the next Beeb along :-)

A useful trick especially if you have several sets of keytops to do is
put them in a pillowcase after washing, tie it up securely, and sling
it in the tumble drier (on a cool cycle). I have been know to put
said pillowcase in the washing machine too, but to be honest the
bucket of hot water (I add "Flash") is usually quicker unless you have
a lot to do. I usually add a very little Mr Sheen after washing as it
helps keep the shine and seems to stop them getting icky and sticky so
quickly.

Seconded.
