That's useful to know, if I'm working with just a Beeb.

Didn't one of the later versions of (D)NFS do this automatically if you
didn't enter a password, like:
   *I Am Rick
and the machine would prompt:
   :
and not show the input?

Yup, use that quite a lot in RISC OS. I think my ArcBBS setup (ab)used
it the most!

Hey, I can't crochet - mom's a whizz.
I don't have a driving licence.
I know practically diddly-squat about Unix (religious issue involving
the losingness of case-sensitive filenames in a 21st century OS - don't
ask...)

What is one man's "pretty basic" could easily be another man's "whoa,
dude!".

Honestly? On a Beeb it is painful, you've noticed.
This is why I tend to keep most of my Beeb stuff on the FileStore. I can
access it with a RISC OS machine and set up all the files draggy-droppy
ready for the Beeb.

Best wishes,

Rick.
