Subject: Beebug Magazine on-line project

Hi all,

An on-line repository of Beebug magazines, comprising scans, OCRd text (for
a full-text search), an index and the magazine discs, would be a very
valuable resource and help preserve the magazine for posterity.

The magazine discs and tapes we already have on-line, of course, as we do
the Magscan index, which, though too basic for what I have in mind, would be
a start.

My problem is with the scans. Unfortunately, my collection of mags did not
survive one of my house moves, though Dave Moore has offered to lend me some
of his (cheers mate!). It would be a lot of work to scan them all (120
issues x?? Pages), so if anyone has already done any (Mark Usher? Are you
out there?) I'd love to hear from you.

If anyone would like to help with this project, or would like me to help
with a project they have started, let me know.

The jobs that would need doing include:
- scanning
- reducing images to on-line friendly file sizes
- checking OCR'd text
- database creation
- indexing (adding fields like author and abstract to the database)
- web site programming.

Many hands make light work, so even if you can only chip in half-a year's
worth (5 issues) of scans or indexing, I'd like to hear from you.
