It was more likely not done because it wasn't foreseen. The 2764 was the
largest EPROM at the time of Beeb develpment, and the 27128 only came in
1982. The 27256 was introduced in 1983, so it probably wasn't forseen to use
it.
Maybe we should have asked Steve Furber that at the AW show!
