Subject: Master Ethernet Upgrade (part 2)
I have got an old PC, which W2k server, working which is a member of a
workgroup.
I set up a direct connection between the PC and Master, no hub or switch,
and added the names and IP addresses to the respective host files. I can
ping both ways by IP address and hostname. I can mount a PC directory from
the master and *type a text file from the Master. All works as it should.
So it looks to me as if my problems are caused by the Windows Domain model
and possibly limitations of the computer name in the mount command caused by
adding domain suffixes (or maybe I just like long names?).
Finally I have reconnect the Master and the workgroup PC via a hub which is
connected to my switch and the PC can access shared directories on the
Domain server so I can copy them to the workgroup PC and thus access them on
the Master. Long winded but works. So I will be able to copy BBC discs from
the Master, via the workgroup PC to my domain server to my Iyonix and then
to Chris's Acorns, which was the reason I bought the Master Ethernet upgrade
in the first place.
Now to find out if I can use Samba on the RiscPC to present directories to
the Master using SMB, and the copy to my Iyonix as an alternative route!
Thanks Sprow a great upgrade!
