I'm afraid the answer has been basically 'because thats the way it  
is'. In reality it is probably because mailman the mailing list  
manager default setting is to have the reply to sender rather than  
reply to list and the list owner does not want to, or can not be  
bothered to change it. We could set-up an alternative list but I think  
most of us appreciate the list and feel that would be a bit ungrateful  
to go off and start a new list. So we just put up with the annoying  
behaviour of this one as the value of the list outweighs the annoyances.
