Yes...

... but that's the problem, I think. Auctions often inflate the price
considerably due to the "feeding frenzy" effect, and I think that often gives
incentive for sellers to tag fixed-price items with very high prices, too.

Interesting idea. I kind of like that, too, because I'd much rather something
I'm getting rid of go to a good home rather than to the person with the
deepest pockets. The swap idea perhaps skews things a little bit more toward
the historical preservation aspect, rather than "financial worth".
