If they can hear me over the noisy electrical lines, the milking 
machines (mom gets a horrid noise in Radio4 LW at half five in the 
morning, and our nearest milkery is about a kilometre away!), plus those 
things that go tick-tick-tick-tick to pulse the electric fences, rings 
that are measured in kilometres emanating pulses that are probably 
receivable on other planets.

Radio amateurs around here will probably want to use FM, or 
line-of-sight microwave, or a fully loaded M16. :-)
