Subject: BBC mandelbrot generator (preview)

Hi

You might think that the BBC Micro is not especially suitable for
exploring the Mandelbrot set. I am able to exclusively reveal, however,
that this is not (quite) the case.

A straightforward implementation in BBC BASIC will leave you waiting until
hell freezes over for the initial image, but a straightforward
implementation in assembly language -- that takes only the tiniest of
liberties with the resolution ;) -- will leave you only enough time to
make a cup of tea.

second processor:

There is also a merely-fuel-injected version for people with only one 6502
in their Beeb, which, thanks to its avoidance of the OS, is not as much
slower as you might expect.

I hope to get this finished in the next few days but I'm so pleased at how
it's turned out so far that I thought others may be interested with the
progress...

Thanks,

--Tom

P.S. I pinched the table of dithered colours from the Mandelbrot generator
that was printed in Acorn User in the early 90s, so if the output looks
familiar then that may be the program you're thinking of :)
