Certainly, yes. There is (or was) an early version of Linux that would
run on the 8086, though god knows how it managed memory.
I also have a feeling that the predecessor to SCO OpenServer, SCO Unix,
ran on lower-end hardware (perhaps 286 at a minimum.) I threw out a
copy of OpenServer 5 (with licence) a couple weeks ago.
How about Minix? What was the minimum requirement for that?
