Andrew
Thanks for your post.
Actually in my notes the engineer stated it should be greater than 60 db.
That's all he knew and the line had failed the quality test.
You are correct, that's what AC Longitudinal Balance is supposed to do.
Yes, I did see in a earlier post, reference to changing the line to the
pole, I'm in the hands of BT Openreach here, and it would appear, they want
to do as little as possible to clear the fault! I assume it's them picking
up the bill, and not BT Wholesale or Eclipse, and certainly not me.
I'm just glad a fault was eventually found with "their equipment" and not
mine.
We'll wait and see, good news last night, no dips.....
Currently at 448000 2880000 9.5 48.5
and this is an improvement, because BT have been mumbling about how we get
2-3Mb sync on such a long line length, and if we were a new subscriber, we
wouldn't have ADSL, and I keep quoting the it worked in 2006 and before, and
went wrong in Jan 2009!
Thanks for everyones help, and hope to stable connection......
Andrew

Well, I suppose 66dB is *just* above 65dB !
I'm presuming that AC Longitudinal Balance is a measure of how well the
pair is balanced and rejects external interference. So an additional
16 dB is no doubt worth having.

I did mention in a an earlier email if you have an old installation
your drop wire and/or overhead cable might not be twisted-pair. If
that's the case, replacing the line from master socket to pole might
be good news.
