Well, the RCA 1802 is probably most famous for being the heart of the Cosmac
Elf computer kit. It was also featured in the RCA Studio II video game (and
clones) as well as some home computers: COMX-35, COMX PC-1. Both were
produced in Hong Kong mainly for the Dutch market.
I own one Studio II plus one Conic M1200 clone, and one COMX-35. I used to
have four of the latter, but sold the other three.
With that I'm saying the non-military spec version of the 1802 CPU is
uncommon, but nowhere near awarding a visit from federal government.
By the way, regarding sources for 6522 chips: Those can be found in many
other places than the BBC Micro. Try old, broken VIC-20s, Commodore 1541
floppy drives, perhaps even a broken PET computer. Often the chips are
socketed, but far from always. Actually I think it is present in even more
equipment from various companies producing 6502 based systems, so it should
be rather easy to find if one knows where to look.
Best regards
