You sure its the missing terminators, and not a short or miss wired cable ?
I wouldn't expect much problem with just a few meters of cable.
My half an econet (got some work to do getting the 2nd machine/FS working),
doesn't care that I have no terminators and a huge 15m cable. Clock at one
end, Master ET at the other. I did get Network Jammed on the long cable,
but it was miswired at once end.
Pull the whole thing apart and try it with just one machine and a clock,
I've had (phone) cables break when I've moved house.
