Thanks, must have taken some time to scan all that.
I laughed at the advice of not cutting the cable or soldering it directly 
to the DIN sockets, as my school did both and it worked fine. I only ecer
had to fix one cable fault, but it was a tricky one as I'd forgotten the
hidden socket fed through a hole in the wall from the ductwork.

ps: love how the archive system has messed up the thread name by converting
the at symbols.
