Subject: ADFS Broken Chain - BBC Model B

Thanks very much for your fast response Rob.
I need to get a CF card and, I guess, a CF card reader/writer for the PC would
be wise.

Peter

From: http://mdfs.net/Docs/Comp/Disk/Format/ADFS

"A directory is reported as 'Broken' if the Master Sequence Number and "Hugo"
strings do not match - bytes 000-004 are compared with bytes 4FA-4FE."

I would suggest the first approach is to patch those bytes to be the
same.? Hopefully that should get you access to the directory, in which
case, backup everything immediately - do not treat the disc as safe to
write to.? Then format up a new CF card and restore everything - once
you are happy you have got everything across you can re-format the old
card..
