You don't need a linux system - go to http://www.chrysocome.net/dd and get
a standalone version of dd which
works at the windows command prompt with no need for cygwin etc.
I have a documented procedure that I've used to backup and restore CF
drives from a telecoms box.
I did this using Windows Vista, and a USB card reader.
