I think most decent kit can understand long filenames (inc. exts); my
Neuros does (ARM Debian), my Zen can (OS unknown), my dopey little MP3
player can (OS? that heap'o'junk has an OS!?).

In fact the only time I ever have problems are printers and photobooths
that just *assume* photos have a .jpg extension, rather than .jpeg.

For what it is worth, in the interests of knowing how the mapping goes:
   test.basic  ->  test~1.ba~

[to see this, type "dir /x" at the command prompt]

Everything copes quite well with .html. :-)

Best wishes,
