That is interesting - for Windows ought to understand .bas is not the
same as .basic? Maybe if you don't have a specific action set up for
.basic, it makes assumptions?

I've found an interesting warning from Microsoft:
--8<--------
# Do not end a file or directory name with a space or a period. Although
the underlying file system may support such names, the Windows shell and
user interface does not. However, it is acceptable to specify a period
as the first character of a name. For example, ".temp".
--8<--------

I don't see a problem with creating and accessing "test." as a file,
perhaps later versions of Windows are less capable?

Best wishes,

Rick.
