Yes, most local filing systems have much smaller directories than
file servers. DFS=31, ADFS-L=47, ADFS-E=77. DOS is unlimited, but
you lose all the metadata. HADFS is unlimited, but only has moddate
and the maximum disk is 16M, and the RISC OS HADFS Filer is not
really up to the task of HUUUUGE data transfers.

If you use BBCZip on RISC OS, if you have SparkFS running you get
the bonus of being able to crunch the zipfile:
*Zip adfs::A5000.MDFS.Syst/zip net::System.$ -8 -r -X
