Thank you all for your help.
I'm actually quite good at soldering! I've just designed and built a
"Griffometer" which measures the oddstruckness of church bells. It has
two three-digit LED displays and fifteen logic chips, which is quite a
lot of soldered joints!
I followed Rick's destructions.
I removed all the chips he told me to. (I had a terrible job getting
out the 7002 chip. I used a wide bladed screwdriver, and had to use
excessive force to get it to come out!)
When I had done that I got a double bleep, and "Basic" came up on the
screen!
I then put them all back (except the ROMS) and it still seemed to be
working. However, when I put ROMS in, it goes back to the flashing
cursor, and no "Basic" on the screen. I've tried moving the "Basic"
chip" but it makes no difference. I've changed the BASIC chip (and the
OS chip), with no difference.
The Watford DFS chip says "Watford DFS" on the screen and has a
flashing cursor below it, so you can't type anything.
My ringing program it does not see at all, but has a flashing cursor.
I tried a Wordwise chip, and that goes straight into Wordwise when you
turn on, and you can't get out of it. Control/Break just brings up
Wordwise again. *Quit gives the message: "Bad Command".
My ROM sockets are proper turned-pin sockets. I have checked that
corresponding pins on the ROM sockets are connected together.
What next?
Thanks again.
Alan
