God, I hope your weather is better than mine! I'm surprised the ADSL is
hanging in there - Livebox gave up hours ago but the other router is
soldiering on...

So Wordwise *works*? How do you mean doolally? Stuck single-tone with
flashing cursor? There's obviously a problem in bringing up the machine,
and I think we can rule out much of the common issues on account of
MOS+BASIC working.
Right. Wordwise? Does this actually *work*? You say you can *BASIC out
of it, which implies it does, but then you also say "any other chip
[...] it goes doolally".
Sorry if I sound harsh, but we NEED to know EXACTLY. Boring clinical
descriptions please.
> I think it is unlikely to be a fault in the ROM sockets,
The problem is:
Is it "any other ROM"?
Is it a specific ROM?
If it is a specific ROM, is it the DFS?
If it is the DFS, is it the ROM or the controller chip?
You see where this is headed? ;-)

Be good to know you got back in one piece. When I went out to feed the
cats, my hat did a pretty good impression of my model helicopter. Took
me several minutes to find it, being hugged tightly by a naked almond
tree...
Ooh, Twin Peaks is on soon. Later....!
Best wishes,
Rick.
