Well, better systems will flush storage caches for you when the power button 
is pressed, with no need for the user to do so first :-)

(I seem to remember my NCR Unix lump having a built-in UPS; it'd keep the 
system in a suspended state if the power went, and commit in-memory data to 
disk if the battery was about to go, too. That was over 20 years ago.)

Don't get me started on Hollywood computers that echo passwords as plain-text 
to the screen, though ;)
