Subject: Beeb Networking - Was: No wonder CompSci graduates

Thanks everyone for their updates/thoughts on the beeb networking
scene. I linked Winston, Spectranet author to the discussion on the
mailing list archive too.

Apologies for the late reply, real life appears to have gotten ahead
of me, lately.

Thanks for the offer, Phil, but I am one of the heathens who doesn't
have enough room at home for original kit, unfortunately. After my
original beeb died and I lacked the know-how to get it working again,
I ended up moving to an emulator environment. Shocking admission, I
know. Though the urge to buy a new setup has been rising steadily of
late ...

Cheers for the update, Rob, and please accept my humblest apologies
for adding in an extra C there, which wasn't warranted!

I think the networking projects are amongst the most interesting going
on in the beeb space, tho I've got my hands in so many other projects
atm, that I don't think there's much I can meaningfully contribute,
apart from showing enthusiasm. :)

If it ever gets to the point where it's possible to setup a virtual
econet over the internet, with a mix of real beebs and emulators, I'd
be quite happy to help out and see if we could host some sort of
permanent fileserver online. Perhaps so that any internet-connected
emulator or local econet could immediately access all the beeb
programs we have online. That would be a bit of a first - rather than
getting ppl to download a load of disc images to play like all the
other emulator communities, we could get new users to just install an
emulator and have it automatically boot and display a menu system full
of all the hosted software available whenever their emulator/machine
is online. Of course, as new things are added to the archive, they
would also become instantly available to users.

Worth a thought, anyway!

Peter.
